I spent years teaching Excel to beginners on LearnExcel.org. Now I’m teaching practical AI skills you can put to work in your business.

If you need ChatGPT for your business or your work but have never really used it, or you tried it once and got a long, bland answer, I’ll get you up to speed with short videos you follow along with. Anybody can do it in under three hours.

Not long ago I was exactly there. I typed a question, got a polite, generic paragraph back, and closed the tab. I couldn’t see what everyone was excited about, and I quietly worried I was falling behind.

After a lot of daily practice I found the crux of it: ChatGPT is only as good as the brief you give it and the follow-up you ask next. Once I saw that, it became useful to me every single day.

I’m sharing that shortcut in this course, so you don’t have to spend months of trial and error getting there.

Here’s what changes once you know how:

  • Stop guessing whether it’s safe to use. You’ll know what never to paste in, how to check your company’s AI policy first, how to catch a confident wrong answer, and where your judgment still decides.
  • Turn a vague prompt into useful work.Get a draft, refine it for the task, then check it before you use it.
  • Clear the writing that piles up.The overdue email, the meeting notes, the one-page summary: a first draft you check and edit, instead of a blank page.

The best way to learn any software has always been practice. ChatGPT is easier than most, because there are no menus to learn. You just type. If you used it for an hour a day for a year, you’d become an expert on your own. But that’s a lot of hours, right?

The faster way to learn ChatGPT, or anything, is to watch someone do a real task, then do the same task yourself. That is how every lesson in this course works.

Everything in the course comes down to three skills:

  1. Brief it.Say who the work is for, what you want, and what a good answer looks like.
  2. Refine it.Ask a follow-up and improve the answer instead of starting over.
  3. Check it.Verify facts, keep private information out, and decide what you will actually use.

That’s it. Here is how it works. The brief is the most important part. Think of ChatGPT as a very capable new colleague on their first day.

They’re fast and well read, but they know nothing about you, your manager, your customer or your deadline. Tell them what a good colleague would need to know and the work comes back useful. Leave it out and you get the generic answer everyone complains about.

To make this easy I built Business AI Formula, a video course built around the tasks people actually do at work: emails, meeting notes, reports, research, planning and job applications.

Lessons run two to three minutes, and each one takes one task from a blank screen to a finished result, so there is no information overload. You won’t need to read a stack of guides. Watch, try it yourself, and you’re good to go.

The lessons use the free ChatGPT plan, so you don’t need a paid plan, though free-plan limits apply (for example on file uploads). If your company uses Microsoft Copilot or a business ChatGPT plan, the three skills carry over. Its screens, features and data rules differ, so follow your company’s AI policy.

It takes about 75 minutes, in 35 short lessons. Do it in one sitting, over a weekend, or ten minutes a day at your desk.
